What is CVD coating

 There are two different coating on tungsten carbide inserts. One is CVD coating, and the other one is PVD coating. Then, what is CVD coating?

CVD is chemical coating.

Turning tools with CVD coating: 

The chemical coating is based on cemented carbide substrate material, and the surface of the substrate is coated with Ti (C,N), AL2O3 and other other CVD coating materials with a thickness of 3-16um. As CVD coating is with better wear resistance & heat resistance & Oxidation resistnace, the chemical stability traits than cemented carbide, so CVD coating tools have a longer life time and are suitable for high-speed processing. 


Milling tools with CVD coating:

The chemical coating is based on cemented carbide substrate material, and the surface is coated with TiC, TiN, Al2O3 and other CVD coating materials with a thickness of 6-8um film by chemical coating method. Since the CVD coating has many advantages such as high hardness, heat resistance, excellent oxidation resistance, and good chemical stability traits, it has prolonging using longer life than cemented carbide tools, it is good capable of high-efficiency cutting processing.

What is the normal problems of corrugated board carbide cutting blades

For the corrugated board carbide cutting blades, what are the problems normally we meet? How are the problems caused? Here you can find the answer:

Problem 1:  Life Span is short

Caused 1: Is the grain size of the grinding wheel proper? Too coarse grain size will cause short working time.

Caused 2: Frequent grinding, long grinding time, high grinding pressure.

Problem 2:  The edge of corrugated boards are with burr and dent After cutting

Caused 1: The blade isn't sharp.

Caused 2: The corrugated board is too wet.

Problem 3:  The carbide cutting blades are crack

Caused 1: Improper Assembly. 

Caused 2: After assembly well, prohibited any improper tough with the blades.

Caused 3: Unstable swing of grinding wheel will make the blades cracked due to the bearing of grinding wheel damaged.

Caused 4: Accidentally hit the blades and cracked.

Problem 4:  Chips on the cutting edge after grinding

Caused 1: Unstable swing grinding wheels may cause the chip issue, even if the blades are broken.

Caused 2: The improper tough may cause the chips on the cutting edge.

Problem 5:  The edge of corrugated board isn't straight

Caused 1: The material of the carbide cutting blades aren't suitable for the corrugated board.

What is the Tungsten carbide?

 

Tungsten carbide is the hardest material on earth, and it is widely used in industrial fields.

 Tungsten carbide is called cemented carbide, it is an alloy material made of refractory carbide (WC) and binder metals by powder metallurgy. Normally the binder is Cobalt or Nickel. The WC powder are mixed with binder Co or Ni, compacted in a mold and then sintered in a vacuum furnace at temperatures no less than 1300°C

Ball milling&Spray Drying--> WC powder mixed up---> Pressing---> Sinter HIP---> Machining/grinding
